Historically, prisoners have worked to cover their expenses.
This has led to various strong skills developed in prisons.
The Finnish government and post office had their forms printed in a Finnish prison until late last century – before the age of digital printing.
Now the same machines are used for Project Papillon’s two-coloured printing.
Finnish prisons traditionally have special expertise in printing and sewing as well as in metal and wood work.
Project Papillon wants this heritage to live on, and bases its prison collaborations on the strong savoir faire developed in institutions through time.
Every bandana is hand-printed and sewn one by one, so each individual bandana is unique.
Each t-shirt is cut, printed and sewn separately. Every finished piece is a result of hours of dedication.
Manufacturing new metal products in Finnish prisons is how Project Papillon supports the continuation of the prisons’ long legacy in metal works.
This is where our key chains are hand-forged.
